The GFZ takes the protection of your personal data very seriously. It commits to protecting the privacy of all persons using its website, and treating any submitted personal data as confidential. The data is used solely for the stated purpose, and is not forwarded to third parties.
In order to improve the quality of our website, we store data on individual page hits for statistical purposes. This data consists of:
- the file name,
- the date and time of page retrieval,
- the data volume sent,
- the access status (file sent, file not found),
- the description of the web browser used,
- the IP address of the requesting computer, in an anonymised form
- the referrer data (information on the reason for page retrieval, e.g. the search engines and search terms used, the websites of origin, campaigns, and direct page hits.)
We only collect personal data through our contact form if this is necessary for your desired purpose (contact). We use your personal data to answer your request. Our contact form requires that you enter your name and email address. You can advise us additional details, e.g. your telephone number, but this is not mandatory.
Our website uses Piwik, a web analysis service. Piwik uses “cookies”, which enable website usage to be analysed. For this purpose, the usage information generated by the cookie (including your abbreviated IP address) is sent to our server, and saved for usage analysis. Your IP address is anonymised here, i.e. you remain anonymous as the user. The information generated by the cookie regarding your use of this website is not forwarded to third parties. You can disable cookies by adjusting your browser software settings accordingly, although this may make it impossible to fully utilise all of this website’s functions. If you do not wish for your usage data to be stored and used, you can reject this at any time with the click of a mouse. In this case, a so-called opt-out cookie will be stored in your browser. Piwik does not collect any data in doing so. Deleting your cookies will also delete the opt-out cookie, which will then have to be re-enabled if necessary.
Furthermore, Piwik is configured in such a way that your visits are not tracked if you have set “I do not wish to be tracked” (Do-not-Track enabled) in your browser.
Cookies are small files stored on a visitor’s hard drive. They allow information to be provided for a certain time frame, and the visitor’s computer to be identified. We use so-called session cookies, which are automatically deleted when you close your browser. You can adjust your browser settings in such a way that you are informed whenever cookies are stored, making cookie usage transparent for you.
Your rights as a user
As a user, you are entitled to ask for information regarding your stored personal data and the purpose for this storage. You can also have incorrect data amended, or arrange for the deletion of data whose storage is prohibited or which is no longer required. We welcome privacy-related information, requests or suggestions.
